Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has launched new and a motor cycle rickshaw pulled waste containers service in the area of walled city for effective waste collection.
An inauguration ceremony was held at fort road attended by Waseem Qadir, Political Secretary to Hamza Shehbaz; Khuram Rohail Asghar, Member Board of Directors LWMC and Managing Director Bilal Mustafa Syed. Guests of honors inaugurated service by themselves running motor cycle rickshaws. Service has been launched in 8 union councils of walled city area in order to efficiently collect and transport waste from narrow streets and roads as collection of waste from these areas is a problematic issue since long.
Final design prepared in consultation with competent authority, local residents of walled city and field staff has been approved and trialed after a pilot study. Local body representatives and residents have appreciated the service terming it an intelligent customized solution to long lasting issue.
According to spokesperson, Initially 35 motor cycle waste containers have been introduced in 8 union councils of walled city and depending upon its success, number would be increased.
LWMC is also considering to introduce such waste collection mechanism in other areas of the city where there streets are narrow and problematic for heavy machinery in order to ease the work of workers. Launching ceremony was followed by awareness campaign.
